In AISTER we have delivered to the AML (Airport of Mauritius) and the Coast Guard of Mauritius, an aluminum rescue and firefighting boat . She is part of the new range of small boats, with different possibilities of customization, design and development in which we are immersed in recent months. It will serve the Airport of Mauritius, in Blue Bay.

The boat has a hull length of 10 meters and an overall length of 11 meters. The hull, built in marine aluminum, has a rigid contour fender of closed cell foam, polyethylene, covered with a plastic skin, polyurethane, which gives the fender greater strength. This fender has an evolutionary form that AISTER have designed specifically for this boat to the needs of the owner.

The boat has a full running deck with a central cabin (walk-around) and a fire fighting equipment, which consists of a motor pump that works for two monitors, one at the stern and one at the bow. The diesel motor pump is located in the aft compartment with a capacity of 240 m3 per hour, what means 1056 GMP. The start-stop system is controlled from the wheelhouse as well as the power control, but the monitors are operated manually. They can be used individually or simultaneously without affecting the operation.

The location of the pump under the cockpit allows us to offer AISTER a completely clear deck that facilitates the operation of the crew in both firefighting and rescue of passengers.

The central cabin, with 360-degree visibility thanks to its side windows and roof, is surrounded by two exterior side passages that allow passage from bow to stern facing the monitor stations. Eight folding crew seats are located in the stern. The cockpit, with a very wide load capacity, includes two rafts for one hundred passengers.

She is able to reach 32 knots thanks to its two 250 HP outboard engines, very stable and maneuverable by the beam, with very good response at sea as well as in the operation of fire, with easy access to the water sheet.

ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) standards

This aluminium rescue and fire-fighting vessel will enable the Coast Guard to ensure safety at Mauritius Airport, which owns the vessel, which must comply with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) directive requiring such a vessel at airports near the sea. The boat is designed for rescue in case of air accident, with all that this implies in terms of safety requirements, so we have sought a shipyard with the capacity to transmit quality in the finishes and a design adapted to these needs.

Customization options for our new MZ Range.

The new range of AISTER allows different options for customization, both for a rescue and fire-fighting boat as a multipurpose or rescue. The owner can choose different configurations of cabin, center console, cabin, full cabin, as well as rescue and handling equipment, offering a very versatile configuration to suit customer needs.

As for the power, the boat can have either one or two outboard engines, with different powers, depending on the operational objective of the boat.

The fire-fighting equipment can be either manual or remote controlled from the cabin, and the owner has the option of increasing the capacity of the motor pump.

AISTER we are an aluminum shipyard, located in the Ria de Vigo specializing in the construction of aluminum boats, which offers custom designs that meet the needs of our customers, with a team with extensive experience in the naval sector.

The Australian-based, but worldwide read, magazine Work Boat World, has for first-time designated AISTER Aluminium Shipyard the builder of the best coastal fireboat of the year 2018.

The decision is based on the fact that the SPEIS II is very versatile because the Shipowner wanted an aluminium boat for fire-fighting, SAR and diving issues. The result as defined by the magazine is ‘an impressive, interesting and innovative, small, multi-role fireboat, SPEIS II benefits from very original, practical and clear design thinking’.

It also went on to point out that the coastal fireboat some characteristics that make it the winner of the award: The vessel has a non-floodable floatation reserve in order to ensure buoyancy in any conditions, making the boat unsinkable, a deck with plenty of working area facilitates crew movement around the fireboat, a removable bulwark at both sides and a 360-degree visibility wheelhouse that ensures the highest standards of safety.

Judging criteria included looking at each builder’s approach to innovation, styling, finish and build quality together with feedback from the clients and an assessment of overall market trends.

In this respect, we expect that the coastal fireboat industry will become increasingly important over the next few years because their function is not just restricted to extinguishing and solving fire problems since the coastal fireboats are used for search and rescue operations or diving missions.

We are delighted and proud to have been awarded this prestigious prize and we are optimistic about the future. The aluminium shipbuilding market is expected to grow in the next few years and we are hard working improving our designs and our customers have a good reaction to that.

The Fireboat will greatly enhance the agency’s ability to fight fires and provide marine search & rescue operations.

The aluminium shipyard AISTER has awarded a tender to build a fireboat for Alicante (Spain) Diving team (SPEIS). The company executed the design and the construction of this new boat that has multi-mission assets with uses including S.A.R and fire fighting missions.

This new fireboat, called SPEIS II, has a lenght of 8 m, a beam of 3.2 m and aluminium hull. The Shipowner opted for this option due to the aluminum adventages as a shipbuilding material as strength, light-weight, customized design and also becasuse is an eco-friendly material due to it´s 100% recyclable.

Functional and ergonomic cabin

The cabin has been designed with close attention to ergonomics and working environment. It’s acoustic and thermal insulated, with waterproof doors and side windows to ensure safety under all operating conditions. Its nordic design turns this fireboat into a boat that attracts for its stunning shapes.

The cabin layout has been developed to facilitate the workflow coordination during the navigation.

The wheelhouse has 360 degree visibility which ensures the highest standards of safety and it’s equipped with guidance, navigation, control and communication systems. The marine interior design is made by high quality standar what allows a maximum comfort.

For its firefighting duties, the SPEIS II, is equipped at the bow with a fire-extinguisher system, a water pump to supply 400 liters per minute with a pressure of 5 bars. Boat dimensions and equipment are designed to operate in areas of difficult access.

In addition, this fireboat has a space onboard where the crew can stow materials and transport them covered by a marine canvas of the same colour as the boat.

Propulsion and navigation

Propulsion comes from two Yamaha 250 HP outboard engines with two 500 liters aluminium fuel tanks. The SPEIS II can reach a maximum speed of 38 knots and a range of 350 nautical miles at cruising speed of 20 knots.

After sea testing at Vigo’s bay, the fireboat behaviour is relayed faithfully and accurately, ensuring an undiluted sailing experience.

The weight calculation study and the hull form allows a quick transition from stop to planning, excellent stability, and a great behavior during the navigation.

The cycling test closes in less than two lengths which means maximum maneuverability in any type of operation and intervention.

Self-draining hull

The deck has a great stability with a walk around cabin towards to facilitates the crew movements around the vessel and a stern deck space as a wide working area and loading space for divers and their equipment.

The SPEIS II stands out for easy access to the water which greatly facilitates the diving works and the collection of objects from the sea. It has at both sides a removable side system used by divers to easily access to the water from the boat. This system is also used as a rescue area for the collection of people.

The crew safety is guaranteed with a self-draining hull and three watertight compartments. At the same time has installed a full bilge alarm system. In addition, it has a non-floodable floatation reserve in order to ensure buoyancy in any flood contidion, making the boat unsinkable.

Currently, the Alicante Firefighting department has a semi-rigid inflatable main boat, another inflatable craft and, with this new construction, a third aluminium fireboat built for AISTER.

In AISTER, we have been working for sea professionals for 30 years. During this time, we built professional aluminium boats for different State Security Bodies such as Spanish Coast Guard or Spanish Navy.
