The Galician shipyard, specialized in naval aluminum and one of the leading references in its sector, continues to achieve new milestones. The Belgian company Colruyt, through its shipowner Fleetco NV, has entrusted AISTER with the production of its new mussel harvesting vessel, which was delivered on May 17th in the Ría de Vigo.

This vessel is specially designed for open sea harvesting and cultivation of mussels using a long-line system.

With a length of 24 meters and a beam of 7 meters, the ship is equipped with two Volvo engines, each providing 425 HP, and its main propulsion is diesel-hydraulic, reaching a maximum speed of about 14 knots.

The propulsion system layout includes space for lithium batteries, allowing future conversion to electric-hydraulic propulsion, which would enable zero-emission operation.

Its shallow draft and foldable hydraulic thrusters give this vessel outstanding maneuverability and operation even in shallow waters.

This AISTER mussel harvester, named “MOULES FRITES,” can accommodate up to 8 crew members, features a kitchen with a dining area for six people, a changing room with a bathroom, and a mechanical workshop.

The navigation bridge offers an automation system that allows monitoring and controlling all services and machinery from the same bridge with a 360º view, providing enhanced safety and performance, as well as making onboard work easier for the crew.

The ship has a spacious deck that allows for different processing machinery configurations, providing a large cargo volume of nearly 15 tons, along with a crane capable of lifting one ton at 10 meters and a hydraulic bow thruster with 700 kg of thrust.

With the delivery of this vessel, AISTER, the Moaña-based naval aluminum leader, reaches a total of 104 constructions completed, with more currently in production.

With a functional and modern design, a length of 9.4 meters, and two 300 HP outboard engines, the MZ10 exceeds 45 knots while ensuring comfortable and agile navigation.

Following the awarding of the contract through a public tender for the design and construction of a fisheries inspection patrol boat for the Consell Insular d’Eivissa, AISTER began the design phase last April, followed by the manufacturing of this first MZ10 model. Now, after seven months of construction, the vessel has been launched, delivered, and is already operating in Mediterranean waters.

Speed and agility, strong points of the MZ range

Like the MZ12s for the Andalusian Regional Government currently under construction at the Moaña shipyard, the MZ10 stands out for its agility and top speed, characteristics that make it the perfect vessel for fisheries inspection work in coastal and port areas.

With a length of 9.4 meters and a beam of 3.1 meters, the AISTER MZ10 is equipped with two 300 HP outboard engines that allow it to exceed 45 knots. It features a polyethylene foam core cleat coated with polyurethane and excellent hydrodynamics thanks to its deep-V hull made of naval aluminum.

The vessel also stands out for its control cabin, providing almost 360° visibility, one of the most significant features of the MZ range and ensuring easy docking and maneuverability. It also features a toilet, a fully equipped console with the latest electronic equipment, and all the necessary tools for inspection work.

A modern and functional design, capable of reaching high speeds and specifically designed to perform its task, while its structure and equipment ensure reliability and comfort while sailing in all types of conditions.

After completing the construction, outfitting, and initial testing in the Vigo estuary, the MZ10 was transported to Ibiza for delivery and final on-site assessments before beginning work in Mediterranean waters.

The completion of this project marks a new milestone for AISTER, closing out a successful 2022 in which the evolution of its designs and construction once again places us at the forefront of the sector. Our adaptability, combined with the performance offered by naval aluminum construction, allows us to be open to the needs of each shipowner to meet the objectives of each project.

Construction of two Aister Oil Spill Response Vessels for the Panama Canal progresses as planned

In AISTER we are working on the construction of two Oil Spill Response Vessel (OSRV) for the Panama Canal Authority that will be part of its protocol of action, intervention and response to possible accidents and spills in the canal area. This construction is the result of collaboration with the Panama Canal Authority, LAMOR & Altum Engineering; giving rise two unique vessels, of specific and optimized design, of high quality and reliability.

The Oil Spill Response Vessel (OSRV) is 12.5 m LOA and 4.2 m BOA and is currently being assembled after the completion of the aluminium and paint work. AISTER meets the planning with the aim of entering the phase of sea trials at the end of December and in January carry the ship to Panama, where the training and commissioning will be officiated.

These boats are designed to provide a rapid response to emergencies, with immediate enlistment. Moreover, these OSRVs are ideal for working in port spaces given their size and equipment.

10 TONS OF CRUDE OIL IN 15 MINUTES

The collaboration with the first level supplier LAMOR has allowed AISTER to provide the best technology available for the two Oil Spill Response Vessel (OSRV). Each ship is equipped with a spill storage tank of about 13 cubic meters that is fed through a collector in the bow that collects oil spills or derivatives both heavy and light, as well as high viscosity.

Although it depends on the type of fuel, the equipment is capable of storing 10 tons of crude oil in the tank in fifteen minutes and it takes the same time to empty the contents into the quay. Moreover, the efficiency of the system guarantees a presence of water of less than 5% in the tank.

EQUIPMENT AND ANTI-POLLUTION BARRIERS

The design of the Oil Spill Response Vessel is designed to leave a wide free space on deck to carry both equipment and anti-pollution barriers as well as a davit with a half-ton capacity for launching the protection elements.

This space on the deck even allows for the transfer of containers for the deposit of solid waste.

The ship complies with Bureau Veritas standards as well as in several aspects with American regulations: USCG (US Coastguard) and ABYC (American Boat and Yacht Council).

WORKBOAT EXPERIENCE

AISTER’s first experience with workboats focused on cleaning and waste collection began 10 years ago with the pelicans and the construction of five units type Garbage and Oil Collector, which are now operating in Spain. This experience in this type of product has evolved into the high-end Oil Spill Response Vessel.
