Last Wednesday, we had the pleasure of welcoming third- and fourth-year students from the Naval and Ocean Engineering Degree (INO) to our facilities as part of the Technical Visits Programme 2026 organised by the Official College of Naval Architects and Ocean Engineers. The visit formed part of an educational tour of several shipyards and companies within the naval sector in the Pontevedra and Vigo area, aimed at bringing future professionals closer to the industrial reality of the industry.

Throughout the day, the students were accompanied by Professor and member Raúl Villa Caro and were welcomed by our Managing Director, Javier Rasilla, who introduced them to AISTER’s activities and shared our vision for innovation and development within the naval industry.

The visit began in the technical office, where AISTER’s Technical Director, Francisco Pita, presented part of the work we carry out in naval engineering and design. Students gained first-hand insight into how client ideas and requirements are transformed into practical technical solutions, as well as the planning and development processes that form part of our team’s daily work.

At AISTER we continue to strengthen our international presence. Our next project is the construction of two MZ12 PILOT vessels, which will be delivered throughout 2026 to a client in Central America.

This project reinforces confidence in our expertise in aluminium shipbuilding and in the development of high-performance vessels designed for pilotage services, a sector where reliability and safety are essential.

MZ12 PILOT: aluminium design and high performance

The new MZ12 PILOT vessels measure around 12 metres in length and 4 metres in beam, featuring a deep-V monohull built entirely from marine-grade aluminium. Their design has been conceived to deliver outstanding manoeuvrability while maintaining excellent stability at sea. All of this makes them ideal craft for safely carrying out pilot transfer operations in both port and coastal environments.

The propulsion system consists of twin 350 HP marine diesel engines, delivering optimal performance with speeds exceeding 24 knots. This balance guarantees that the vessels can operate efficiently and reliably to meet the demanding requirements of daily pilotage service.

Comfort and safety on board

The aluminium cabin has been designed with a clear focus on the comfort and protection of those on board. It features ergonomic suspension seats for the pilot and co-pilot, along with six additional adjustable suspension seats for pilots and crew. The large glazed area provides 360-degree panoramic visibility, which is crucial during manoeuvres to approach large vessels. In addition, noise and vibration insulation, together with air conditioning on board, significantly enhance the sailing experience, ensuring a safe and comfortable working environment.

In terms of equipment, the MZ12 PILOT vessels comply with international standards, integrating communication, navigation, rescue, bilge and fire-fighting systems that further strengthen operational safety.

Another step in our international expansion

This project reaffirms our commitment to innovation and excellence in shipbuilding, offering solutions tailored to each client’s needs and to specific operating conditions.

The two MZ12 PILOT vessels to be delivered in 2026 will be dedicated to pilot transfer operations in port environments, contributing to enhanced maritime safety and traffic efficiency across the region.

At AISTER, we continue sailing into the future, building safe, efficient vessels ready to meet the most demanding conditions anywhere in the world.

BIOSAFIRE goes back to nature to upgrade lignins and tannins, nature’s flame retardants, and unlock them for industrial application of biosbased flame retardants.

Starting from already existing pilot plants, BIOSAFIRE upscalesand broadens the available feedstocks to provide flame retardant in powder formats for five applications in four different sectors: naval, railway, household goods and wood coatings.

Featuring the same fire retardancy performance as chosen toxic benchmarks and enhancingsafety and sustainability with an 80% of biobased content, BIOSAFIRE aspires to not only demonstrate its targets on 5 use cases, but also to create a material portfolio and a set of processing guidelines to enhance flame retardants substitution by the industry. This will open the possibility for biobased resins to exhibit good fire retardant properties.

The Galician shipyard, specialized in naval aluminum and one of the leading references in its sector, continues to achieve new milestones. The Belgian company Colruyt, through its shipowner Fleetco NV, has entrusted AISTER with the production of its new mussel harvesting vessel, which was delivered on May 17th in the Ría de Vigo.

This vessel is specially designed for open sea harvesting and cultivation of mussels using a long-line system.

With a length of 24 meters and a beam of 7 meters, the ship is equipped with two Volvo engines, each providing 425 HP, and its main propulsion is diesel-hydraulic, reaching a maximum speed of about 14 knots.

The propulsion system layout includes space for lithium batteries, allowing future conversion to electric-hydraulic propulsion, which would enable zero-emission operation.

Its shallow draft and foldable hydraulic thrusters give this vessel outstanding maneuverability and operation even in shallow waters.

This AISTER mussel harvester, named “MOULES FRITES,” can accommodate up to 8 crew members, features a kitchen with a dining area for six people, a changing room with a bathroom, and a mechanical workshop.

The navigation bridge offers an automation system that allows monitoring and controlling all services and machinery from the same bridge with a 360º view, providing enhanced safety and performance, as well as making onboard work easier for the crew.

The ship has a spacious deck that allows for different processing machinery configurations, providing a large cargo volume of nearly 15 tons, along with a crane capable of lifting one ton at 10 meters and a hydraulic bow thruster with 700 kg of thrust.

With the delivery of this vessel, AISTER, the Moaña-based naval aluminum leader, reaches a total of 104 constructions completed, with more currently in production.

The shipyard in Moaña has just delivered two of the four units ordered by the Andalusian Agency for Agricultural and Fisheries Management through a public tender process.

The remaining units are currently under construction and will be delivered in September.

As planned for the summer of 2023, AISTER has delivered the first and second of the four patrol boats ordered by the Regional Government of Andalusia to the Moaña shipyard through a public bidding process less than a year ago. These are also the first units of the MZ12 range designed for fisheries inspection work, marking a new milestone for AISTER in the evolution of the MZ vessels.

Measuring 11.38 meters in length and featuring a deep-V aluminum hull, these boats offer optimal hydrodynamics and can exceed 40 knots of top speed, powered by two 350 HP outboard engines.

They are also equipped with shock-mitigating seats, ensuring comfortable and safe navigation at high speeds; a GPS-based position-holding system; and a joystick control system for easy docking and excellent maneuverability in all directions from the cabin, which offers 360º visibility and is outfitted with the most advanced electronic systems.

The completion of this project marks a new milestone for AISTER, particularly in the development of the MZ12 vessel line — the result of years of work in designing and building this type of boat, which is now a leader in its sector.

The delivery of these first two units — TARTESOS UNO and TARTESOS DOS — took place at the end of August, and the remaining two will be delivered throughout September.

The sea trials carried out in Ría de Vigo exceeded all expectations in terms of manoeuvrability and top speed, comfortably exceeding 60 knots.

The first unit of the AISTER HS60 has already been supplied and presented in Algeciras, where it will start operating for the Maritime Service of the Spanish Guardia Civil (SEMAR).

Designed from scratch and with a completely innovative development, the prototype of the HS60 interceptor is ready to start operating in Algeciras. The vessel, designed by AISTER in their shipyard in Moaña, is designed to fight against illegal immigration, drug trafficking and organized crime, and the truth is that the sea trials carried out in Vigo showed more than satisfactory results.

Top speed and manoeuvrability are two of the boat’s strongest points. Thanks to its experience in the construction of interceptors and a detailed development of the project, AISTER has been able to exceed all expectations. With 18 meters in length and 4.5 meters in beam, the HS60 comfortably exceeds 60 knots top speed with two MAN inboard engines of 1800 hp each, powering two HamiltonJet waterjets. The prototype design is the result of a great effort in design, engineering, performance, safety and comfort.

The interceptor also guarantees a quick and agile response to situations that require a quick or unexpected manoeuvre, being able to reduce the crash-stop to about two boat lengths.

The HS60’s speed and manoeuvrability characteristics make it the first vessel of its kind in the world.

A qualitative and quantitative step forward in the evolution of high-speed interceptors

With this new model custom-designed for the Guardia Civil Maritime Service, AISTER has taken another step forward in the evolution of high-speed aluminium interceptors.

In addition to their performance in terms of speed and manoeuvrability, the HS60 has an interior and a 360° visibility exterior steering position that offers great habitability and comfort, both in the cabin and in the engine room, thanks to the high standards of thermal and acoustic insulation.

It is designed for four crew members and has ergonomic seats with anti-shock protection, as well as cabins and kitchen for longer cruises.
