With a functional and modern design, a length of 9.4 meters, and two 300 HP outboard engines, the MZ10 exceeds 45 knots while ensuring comfortable and agile navigation.

Following the awarding of the contract through a public tender for the design and construction of a fisheries inspection patrol boat for the Consell Insular d’Eivissa, AISTER began the design phase last April, followed by the manufacturing of this first MZ10 model. Now, after seven months of construction, the vessel has been launched, delivered, and is already operating in Mediterranean waters.

Speed and agility, strong points of the MZ range

Like the MZ12s for the Andalusian Regional Government currently under construction at the Moaña shipyard, the MZ10 stands out for its agility and top speed, characteristics that make it the perfect vessel for fisheries inspection work in coastal and port areas.

With a length of 9.4 meters and a beam of 3.1 meters, the AISTER MZ10 is equipped with two 300 HP outboard engines that allow it to exceed 45 knots. It features a polyethylene foam core cleat coated with polyurethane and excellent hydrodynamics thanks to its deep-V hull made of naval aluminum.

The vessel also stands out for its control cabin, providing almost 360° visibility, one of the most significant features of the MZ range and ensuring easy docking and maneuverability. It also features a toilet, a fully equipped console with the latest electronic equipment, and all the necessary tools for inspection work.

A modern and functional design, capable of reaching high speeds and specifically designed to perform its task, while its structure and equipment ensure reliability and comfort while sailing in all types of conditions.

After completing the construction, outfitting, and initial testing in the Vigo estuary, the MZ10 was transported to Ibiza for delivery and final on-site assessments before beginning work in Mediterranean waters.

The completion of this project marks a new milestone for AISTER, closing out a successful 2022 in which the evolution of its designs and construction once again places us at the forefront of the sector. Our adaptability, combined with the performance offered by naval aluminum construction, allows us to be open to the needs of each shipowner to meet the objectives of each project.

With a design length of 11.38 metres and two outboard engines of 350 HP each, the patrol boats will be able to reach top speeds of more than 40 knots. They will be the first units of AISTER’s MZ12 range to be used for fisheries inspection work.

The contract, which was awarded through a public tender selection process, is due to expire in the summer of 2023.

AISTER has been selected by the Agricultural and Fisheries Management Agency of Andalusia for the design and construction of four fishing inspection patrol boats. The award of the contract represents a new challenge for the Galician shipyard, being these the first units of the MZ12 range to be built for fisheries inspection work.

Fast, agile and resilient

Designed for fast intervention thanks to its agility, top speed and autonomy, the MZ12 stands out as the ideal vessel for operation in coastal and harbour areas. In this case, the vessels will have a top speed of more than 40 knots thanks to its two outboard engines of 350 HP each and seats with impact mitigation, which guarantees a comfortable and safe navigation at high speeds, avoiding injuries and fatigue in the crew after hours of patrolling the high seas.

With an overall length of 11.38 metres and a beam of 3.5 metres, its deep-V hull made of naval aluminium gives it optimal hydrodynamics for its task. They will also have a GPS position-keeping system which, by means of its joystick system (joystick piloting for outboards), will ensure easy docking and manoeuvrability in all directions from the control cabin, one of the most significant elements of the MZ range thanks to its 360º vision, with a very high visibility capacity and equipped with a complete console with the most cutting-edge electronic equipment.

The structure and equipment therefore ensure reliability and easy handling in all conditions, and will include a davit system for lifting gear and nets.

Summer 2023

The four patrol boats will be built at the Moaña shipyard with a delivery deadline of summer 2023, when the first MZ12 patrol boats are expected to be launched. Once the construction and outfitting work has been completed, they will be transported to Andalusia for delivery and final in situ tests.

The culmination of this project will be a new milestone for AISTER in the evolution of MZ vessels, and specifically of the MZ12 line, as a result of the evolution of the Galician company’s designs and constructions over the last few years.

Thanks to our capacity for adaptation and the features offered by naval aluminium construction, at AISTER we are open to the specific needs of each client and we work closely with the shipowner to create a design that meets the specifications and needs of each vessel.

Construction of two Aister Oil Spill Response Vessels for the Panama Canal progresses as planned

In AISTER we are working on the construction of two Oil Spill Response Vessel (OSRV) for the Panama Canal Authority that will be part of its protocol of action, intervention and response to possible accidents and spills in the canal area. This construction is the result of collaboration with the Panama Canal Authority, LAMOR & Altum Engineering; giving rise two unique vessels, of specific and optimized design, of high quality and reliability.

The Oil Spill Response Vessel (OSRV) is 12.5 m LOA and 4.2 m BOA and is currently being assembled after the completion of the aluminium and paint work. AISTER meets the planning with the aim of entering the phase of sea trials at the end of December and in January carry the ship to Panama, where the training and commissioning will be officiated.

These boats are designed to provide a rapid response to emergencies, with immediate enlistment. Moreover, these OSRVs are ideal for working in port spaces given their size and equipment.

10 TONS OF CRUDE OIL IN 15 MINUTES

The collaboration with the first level supplier LAMOR has allowed AISTER to provide the best technology available for the two Oil Spill Response Vessel (OSRV). Each ship is equipped with a spill storage tank of about 13 cubic meters that is fed through a collector in the bow that collects oil spills or derivatives both heavy and light, as well as high viscosity.

Although it depends on the type of fuel, the equipment is capable of storing 10 tons of crude oil in the tank in fifteen minutes and it takes the same time to empty the contents into the quay. Moreover, the efficiency of the system guarantees a presence of water of less than 5% in the tank.

EQUIPMENT AND ANTI-POLLUTION BARRIERS

The design of the Oil Spill Response Vessel is designed to leave a wide free space on deck to carry both equipment and anti-pollution barriers as well as a davit with a half-ton capacity for launching the protection elements.

This space on the deck even allows for the transfer of containers for the deposit of solid waste.

The ship complies with Bureau Veritas standards as well as in several aspects with American regulations: USCG (US Coastguard) and ABYC (American Boat and Yacht Council).

WORKBOAT EXPERIENCE

AISTER’s first experience with workboats focused on cleaning and waste collection began 10 years ago with the pelicans and the construction of five units type Garbage and Oil Collector, which are now operating in Spain. This experience in this type of product has evolved into the high-end Oil Spill Response Vessel.

In AISTER we have delivered to the AML (Airport of Mauritius) and the Coast Guard of Mauritius, an aluminum rescue and firefighting boat . She is part of the new range of small boats, with different possibilities of customization, design and development in which we are immersed in recent months. It will serve the Airport of Mauritius, in Blue Bay.

The boat has a hull length of 10 meters and an overall length of 11 meters. The hull, built in marine aluminum, has a rigid contour fender of closed cell foam, polyethylene, covered with a plastic skin, polyurethane, which gives the fender greater strength. This fender has an evolutionary form that AISTER have designed specifically for this boat to the needs of the owner.

The boat has a full running deck with a central cabin (walk-around) and a fire fighting equipment, which consists of a motor pump that works for two monitors, one at the stern and one at the bow. The diesel motor pump is located in the aft compartment with a capacity of 240 m3 per hour, what means 1056 GMP. The start-stop system is controlled from the wheelhouse as well as the power control, but the monitors are operated manually. They can be used individually or simultaneously without affecting the operation.

The location of the pump under the cockpit allows us to offer AISTER a completely clear deck that facilitates the operation of the crew in both firefighting and rescue of passengers.

The central cabin, with 360-degree visibility thanks to its side windows and roof, is surrounded by two exterior side passages that allow passage from bow to stern facing the monitor stations.
ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) standards

This aluminium rescue and fire-fighting vessel will enable the Coast Guard to ensure safety at Mauritius Airport, which owns the vessel, which must comply with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) directive requiring such a vessel at airports near the sea. The boat is designed for rescue in case of air accident, with all that this implies in terms of safety requirements, so we have sought a shipyard with the capacity to transmit quality in the finishes and a design adapted to these needs.

The Australian-based, but worldwide read, magazine Work Boat World, has for first-time designated AISTER Aluminium Shipyard the builder of the best coastal fireboat of the year 2018.

The decision is based on the fact that the SPEIS II is very versatile because the Shipowner wanted an aluminium boat for fire-fighting, SAR and diving issues. The result as defined by the magazine is ‘an impressive, interesting and innovative, small, multi-role fireboat, SPEIS II benefits from very original, practical and clear design thinking’.

It also went on to point out that the coastal fireboat some characteristics that make it the winner of the award: The vessel has a non-floodable floatation reserve in order to ensure buoyancy in any conditions, making the boat unsinkable, a deck with plenty of working area facilitates crew movement around the fireboat, a removable bulwark at both sides and a 360-degree visibility wheelhouse that ensures the highest standards of safety.

Judging criteria included looking at each builder’s approach to innovation, styling, finish and build quality together with feedback from the clients and an assessment of overall market trends.

In this respect, we expect that the coastal fireboat industry will become increasingly important over the next few years because their function is not just restricted to extinguishing and solving fire problems since the coastal fireboats are used for search and rescue operations or diving missions.

We are delighted and proud to have been awarded this prestigious prize and we are optimistic about the future. The aluminium shipbuilding market is expected to grow in the next few years and we are hard working improving our designs and our customers have a good reaction to that.
