This passenger ferry called JUAN DE HOMAR in honour of the colonel who directed the works of the Canal de Castilla in the eighteenth century has a length of 12.65 m and a beam of 3.60 m. The vessel has rigid steel monohull and aluminium superstructure.
Internally, the passenger ferry JUAN DE HOMAR gives comfortable facilities: For the crew, a spacious and bright wheelhouse with 360 degree-visibility during the navigation and in the deck, the boat is equipped with panoramic windows towards the banks of the Canal.
The boat can transport 36 passengers in each tour and includes space for two wheelchairs. The access on board is through a ramp.
The propulsion
The boat was fitted with two Krautler Waz of 96 volts and 10 kW main engines. This configuration ensures the reduction of vibrations and noises that occur in motor navigation allowing passengers enjoy of the quiet tour that lasts approximately an hour.
The passenger ferry JUAN DE HOMAR has 45 batteries, 32 for engines, 12 for the toilet and 1 for an emergency, that allows a range of approximately 8 hours and after that time, the boat can be recharged in a power outlet installed in the base, Villa Umbrales.
Also, the boat has excellent manoeuvrability. It’s equipped with two rudders and a bow thruster to manoeuvre change of direction in a space smaller than one length.
The equipment
The passenger ferry JUAN DE HOMAR is equipped with piped music, 19″ TV, audio system, ambient light, air conditioning and toilet with sewage collection system to avoid pourings in the Canal de Castilla.
The JUAN DE HOMAR is the second electric passenger ferry offered by the Provincial Council to travel around the Canal de Castilla. The first boat MARQUES DE LA ENSENADA make tours in the dam of San Andrés de Herrera de Pisuerga.
