MZ12-C XL patrol boat: Versatility and endurance for intensive surveillance
The MZ12-C XL patrol boat from AISTER sets a new benchmark in speed, durability, and operational efficiency for coastal patrol missions, port surveillance, and search and rescue operations (SAR). As an evolution of the MZ12 model, this vessel has been designed to respond quickly and safely to the most demanding environments.
A fleet of six MZ12-C XL units was delivered in 2024 for key missions along the African coastline. Due to client confidentiality, their identity cannot be disclosed, but the deployment supports control, rapid response, and rescue operations in high-demand areas.
Technical specifications
Robust design, optimal performance
Fully constructed in 5000-series marine-grade aluminium, the MZ12-C XL features a deep-V monohull design, offering excellent stability, manoeuvrability, and performance in rough seas. With a length of 11.4 metres, beam of 3.5 metres, and depth of 0.95 metres, it is highly versatile for both coastal and port operations, even in adverse weather.
It is powered by two 4-stroke, 8-cylinder Mercury SeaPro outboard engines, each delivering 250 hp. This propulsion system enables a top speed of over 37 knots, with an operational range of up to 150 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 27 knots. The vessel’s efficiency ensures low fuel consumption and cost-effective operation, ideal for extended and continuous missions.
Prepared for the most demanding missions
The MZ12-C XL has been developed to meet a wide range of mission profiles: patrolling, coastal control and inspection, support for police or customs operations, and search and rescue. Its modular design and high adaptability allow for various equipment configurations tailored to specific operational needs.
A key feature is its hybrid perimeter fender system, protecting the hull against impacts and abrasion during critical manoeuvres. The system combines a closed-cell polyethylene core with a high-resistance polyurea outer layer, providing exceptional impact absorption and long service life. Additionally, a removable bow fender has been integrated, specifically designed for boarding and close-contact operations.
Custom design, guaranteed reliability
Each MZ12-C XL unit is custom-built to rigorous quality standards, from hull design to final commissioning. Onboard features include shock-mitigating seats, electro-hydraulic steering for enhanced manoeuvrability, and an electrical system built around three independent battery banks to ensure service continuity in emergencies. The vessel is also equipped with state-of-the-art navigation and communication systems.
High-performance air conditioning is included, and some units are fitted with a toilet and washbasin, offering comfort without compromising operational efficiency.
“Our client has expressed great satisfaction with the outstanding performance of these vessels. End users highlight their superior stability, cost-effectiveness, and adaptability to diverse mission requirements,” says Javier Rasilla, General Manager at AISTER.
Though designed for a basic crew of two, the extended cabin and two aft external seats allow for up to eight additional personnel. This new fleet has proven highly effective for both surveillance missions and rapid response deployments, making it a key asset for maritime security agencies.
A strategic and tailored delivery
The delivery process was meticulously planned, with construction schedules requiring precise logistics. Units were shipped in pairs by sea, and AISTER also provided final commissioning and crew training on-site, ensuring full knowledge transfer and optimal operation from day one.
With this project, AISTER strengthens its commitment to robust, functional, and sustainable custom naval solutions. The MZ12-C XL not only expands the company’s portfolio of high-speed, rapid-response vessels, but also marks a qualitative leap in how modern patrol boats carry out their missions in the 21st century.
